Two years ago, Wake Him With a Kiss was published and I thought we’d celebrate that here on the blog. It’s short, it’s cute, it’s a slice-of-life story, a meet-cute, and it’s perfect if you only have a few minutes to spare but still want something to read.
When Lo is dragged into the tattoo shop by his bossy cousin, he steals everyone’s attention. The big man is afraid of needles but wants a tattoo to celebrate an important moment in his life. And he wants Amos to do it.
Tattoo artist Amos is mesmerized by Lo from the moment he lays eyes on him. He’s huge but kind, strong but gentle, and his freckles…God, his freckles.
They hit it off immediately, but Lo grows nervous as the big moment approaches. Will Lo flee from the tattoo machine before they have time to get to know each other? Before they have the time to see if the sparks will turn into something more?
Happy one year anniversary to Wake Him With a Kiss, my darling little story about Lo and Amos and their first meeting at the tattoo parlor where Amos works. It’s been surprisingly popular for such a short story, and that makes me really happy, because I love it. I love Lo and Amos, I love Lo’s cousin Nina, and I love this little moment in time we get to share with them. I love everything about it, and the cover is the cherry on the cake.
*happy sigh*
So I thought Wake Him With a Kiss deserves to be remembered, to be celebrated. It deserves a birthday party. So have a cup of tea and a slice of cake, and tell me; do you like tattoos? Do you have any or do you want one? And are you as obsessed by freckles as Amos is?
Have you read Wake Him With a Kiss? If not, it’s the perfect story to curl up with on the couch on a lazy Sunday. Even if you have a long list of things that needs to be done today, you deserve a short break. A few minutes of you-time, to rest and recharge. So why not do that in the company of a good book? 🙂

Every year, JMS Books releases an anthology with the best-selling short stories of the year, and I’m extremely happy and honored to tell you that for the fifth year in a row, one of my stories will be included! Can you believe it? Five years in a row!! What have I done to deserve this?
💃 (<- Nell doing the happy dance)
This year, it’s my tiny tattoo story, Wake Him with a Kiss that you loved so much it’ll be included in the anthology. This makes supremely happy, because it’s not even 7000 words long, and most readers tend to go for longer stories. So thank you so much for loving this little book so much it sold so well. 😘
As usual, I’m in excellent company. My friend Hollyfelia (Holly Day/Ofelia Gränd) managed to get two stories into the anthology, one for each pen name, which is a huge accomplishment. K.L. Noone, one of my favorite authors, of course has a story in it, and my dear Kris, too. I’m so happy for all of us!
The anthology will be released on January 1st, and the pre-order link is up at JMS Books now. I’ll post it below.
2021 Top Ten Gay Romance brings together the best-selling short stories published by JMS Books that year.
From first love to true love, from submission to sensual, from heat to sweet and everything in between, the couples in these stories are sure to keep you turning the pages as you fall in love with them.
With stories by Kris T. Bethke, Jamie Craig, Holly Day, Ofelia Gränd, Pat Henshaw, Nell Iris, A.C. Katt, Shawn Lane, Wayne Mansfield, and K.L. Noone, this head-over-heels collection goes beyond bedtime reading. Whether happily ever after or happy for now, there’s an ending for everyone in here!
Hurrah, today is the release day of Wake Him with a Kiss! Come on, join me in a little happy dance, will ya? It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; I’d be totally content with a little butt wiggle for me and the book, I promise! 🙂
(If any of you actually did a butt wiggle now, I just want to let you know that I’ll love you forever. You rock! 😍)
Do you have a tattoo? I don’t. I’d like one (or several) but I have super sensitive dry eczema skin and feel like adding a tattoo on top of that would be a bad idea, but it saddens me a little. I’d love something colorful and creative, something that tells a story about who I am, but alas. You can’t always get what you want, like Mick Jagger probably would say.
Lo in Wake Him with a Kiss doesn’t have a tattoo either, but to mark the occasion of coming out, he’s determined to get one. That’s when he meets Amos, the tattoo artist…

Have you preordered my short story Wake Him With a Kiss yet? If not, now’s the time! 🙂
It’s a very short (about 7K words) story about Amos, a tattoo artist, and Lo, who’s about to get his very first tattoo to celebrate an important moment in his life; him coming out to his family. He wants a rainbow tattoo on his wrist and he’s researched artists and loves Amos’s work.
I googled a lot of rainbow tattoos to use as inspiration, and found one that stood out to me. Want to see it?
I really love this tattoo, and it’s what Amos makes for Lo (except for the cloud, it’s not included in Lo’s tattoo). I could imagine getting it myself, if it wasn’t for my super sensitive eczema skin. 🙂
Excerpt:
While he was talking, I finished the sketch and I turn it to him so he can see. His hand flies up and covers his mouth and he doesn’t take his eyes off it. “It’s perfect,” he breathes.
It’s a rainbow like he asked for, but instead of neat, perfect lines, they are a little messy, as though I’ve painted them with my watercolors. The colors are intense and float into each other in some places, while they are more saturated and precise in others. The red doesn’t go all the way to the end of the rainbow, and the indigo is just a thin line at the start but swells out and runs into the blue at the end.
It’s stunning, if I may say so myself. Completely inspired by the man in front of me.
“Yeah?” I ask.
Lo nods. “Yes. It’s beautiful. Exactly right.”
