It Rained All Night: Getting Closer

The countdown continues here on the blog. Not many days left now until Henrik and Mikko’s story is out in the wild. They live in different parts of the country, separated by 1500 kilometers, and they’re just friends. Very close friends; in fact, Mikko is the only one Henrik has ever trusted wholeheartedly in his entire life.

But they’re just friends. Just friends…or are they?

It Rained All Night; Mikko loves the rain

“You’re gonna be tired tomorrow. I don’t want you to injure yourself while doing the crow pose.”

“Aw, Henrik.” The R in my name rolls on the tip of his tongue. “I appreciate your concern, but you know I can fly in my sleep.”

I know. And he looks magnificent doing it; with his arm muscles bulging as he holds up his weight, one long leg stretched up toward the sky, toes pointed, gaze focused on the mat, he’s the image of perfection, and I can’t help sighing.

Can a chance meeting in the rain change someone’s life?

Meeting someone who can make him stop going is an eye-opener for Henrik. The man, Mikko, is his complete opposite, a steady rock in the wild rainstorm that is Henrik’s life, but the connection between them is both unexpected and instantaneous. Their encounter only lasts a few minutes, but before they part, they exchange phone numbers.

They live far away from each other, but soon they text and call daily, until Mikko is Henrik’s dearest friend and most trusted person. But a late-night question on the phone has Henrik re-evaluating his feelings. It’s impossible to love someone you’ve only met in person once…right?

Is the connection Henrik and Mikko forged long distance enough to sustain them when they meet again? And will their love be strong enough to give them the happily ever after they deserve?

It Rained All Night: the Countdown Continues

Only one week until the release of It Rained All Night. I’m excited, are you excited?

In my story, Henrik needs to see Mikko at once, but they live 1500 kilometers apart (that’s 932 miles for you Americans) so he talks to his dad about using the family’s private plane to go and see him. It’s an unusual thing for Henrik, so unusual his father doesn’t even question why he’s calling in the middle of the night.

Would you buy your own plane if you were a gazillionaire?

It Rained All Night; Henrik’s family is a wealthy, titled family, but he’s not the typical gazillionaire.

“And the sweatpants you wore when you arrived are extremely ratty for a gazillionaire.”

“They’re comfy! They’re my favorite pair.”

“They’re a hundred years old.”

I chuckle. “Nah. Only ten.”

“I bet they’re not even a fancy brand.”

“Let me tell you a little gazillionaire secret; branded sweatpants are just regular sweatpants but ridiculously more expensive.”

Today’s song doesn’t have rain in the title, but it rains in the actual song, so it qualifies. Also Jim Morrisson 😀

Riders on the Storm by The Doors

Riders on the storm
Into this house, we’re born
Into this world, we’re thrown
Like a dog without a bone

More to come tomorrow, don’t forget to come back.

It Rained All Night: More Countdown

This is the seventh day of the countdown to It Rained All Night, my short friends-to-lovers story. Don’t you just love a good friends-to lovers book? I know I do, especially if they’ve been friends for a long time and suddenly realize, “Hey, there’s something more than a friendship going on here!”

One of my favorite friends-to-lovers stories is Superhero by Eli Easton. What’s your favorite? 🙂

It Rained All Night; a friends-to-lovers story

He hums noncommittally, the way he does when he needs to collect his thoughts. I close my eyes and let him, his even breaths in my ear helping me relax even more.

We exist in silence for several minutes, before he finally speaks, his tone raw. Vulnerable. “How long are we going to do this?”

I blink my eyes open and stare at the wet roof, furrowing my eyebrows. “Do what?”

“Pretend we’re only friends.”

“Oh…that.”

It Rained All Night: Continuing the Countdown

Time flies when you’re having fun and we’re almost half-way through this countdown already. When the story starts, Mikko and Henrik have only met once IRL, at a yoga retreat three years ago. But after a conversation on the phone, they decide they need to see each other again.

It was raining during their first meeting, and it’s raining when Henrik travels to see Mikko. But what do you expect, it’s a rain-themed story! 😀

It Rained All Night: Mikko and Henrik reunite in the rain

It rains all night, and the rain follows me the entire trip; aggressive and violent when I board the plane, but milder when I land, faithfully eating away at the snow on the ground, soaking the windshield of the rental I drive to Mikko’s little house by the coast.

Today’s song is a classic, one I guarantee you’ve heard a million times before, but maybe not in this version. It’s performed by Swedish group Fläskkvartetten, and I apologize for the boring video of only the album cover, but they were a small obscure Swedish band so there’s not a lot of videos on Youtube featuring them.

Over the Rainbow by Fläskkvartetten (Flesh quartet)

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can’t I?

Come back tomorrow for another snippet and an excellent, excellent song.

It Rained All Night: 9 Days Until Release

This is the fifth day of the It Rained All Night countdown, and today’s snippet is the opening of the book. It rains the first time Henrik meets Mikko and it rains on the night the story takes place. Mikko loves the rain, and Henrik likes to take pictures of it whenever he can. He sends them to Mikko, making his friend happy, and every time it rains, Henrik thinks of Mikko.

It Rained All Night: Mikko and Henrik meet in the rain

My first real memory of Mikko Salminen is him standing in the rain. Head tilted back, face turned skyward, the corners of his mouth curled up, as though he was drinking in the drops of the gentle spring rain. As though he was a tiny bud, collecting the nourishment he needed to grow into a rich green leaf. He held out his arms, as though he was welcoming the precipitation, inviting it into his space, drinking it down into his roots.

Today’s song is by The Pogues, a song I’ve loved since I heard it the first time back in the 1980s. Ugh, that makes me old, doesn’t it? 😀

A Rainy Night in Soho by The Pogues

I took shelter from a shower
And I stepped into your arms
On a rainy night in Soho
The wind was whistling all its charms

Tune back in tomorrow for a new snippet, and a very special version of a classic rain-themed song by a Swedish band.
