Thom Novak feels like a walking cliché: the gay guy desperately in love with his straight best friend, Lee. But he’s willing to keep his feelings hidden, to do whatever it takes, as long as they stay friends forever.

Lee Conway loves sharing an apartment with Thom, his best friend since birth, and would be happy doing it for the rest of his life…no matter his current girlfriend’s opinion on the matter. But he’s never been known for being in contact with his emotions.

When something happens to upset the status quo, Lee pulls away. Has Lee learned how Thom feels about him? Will it mean the end of their friendship? Or is there another reason Lee needs time to think? A more…hopeful reason?

Wrapping up 2019

In 2019, I’ve had eleven individual releases and my stories have been featured in three anthologies.

Think about that for a minute.

Yes, one book is a re-release, so “only” ten new stories. Two are under 10K words. The longest book is only 34032 words and a collab with Kris T. Bethke so I only wrote about half of those words because she wrote the rest. But it’s still a lot. It’s still 185 685 words in one year.

I wrote and published my first fantasy and paranormal stories in 2019. And my first M/M/M story. I wrote about 40+ characters, about age gap, about a fluffy bunny shifter, about a party boy who wanted more in life. I wrote about a homophobic family and an awesome ex-wife. I wrote about star-crossed lovers and about the fear that can grip you when you’re at risk of losing the love of your life.

All that…and I still found the time to move across the world.

I mean. Look at this:

Nells 2019

So maybe I don’t need to feel bad for not writing much the last three months of the year (because of the move from Malaysia back to Sweden)? And maybe, we can all agree that this many releases in one year is a bit…excessive?

That being said. OH MAH GAWD, I released eleven books this year. How awesome am I?

Have you read them all? Which one was your favorite?

Thank you, all, for this year, I could never do this without you. I hope you will stay with me for the next year, maybe even for the next, new decade.

Happy New Year to you all. Don’t commit to resolutions you’ll break before February, and if you celebrate the coming of 2020 with a glass of champagne, think of me 😉

EXCERPT:

And I did think about it. All the way back to the boat. As I tossed and turned during the night. When I stumbled out of the berth before the sun had crawled over the treetops and as I made coffee with trembling hands.

I thought about it as I took a quick shower, got dressed, and took the dogs out for a walk. It was no wonder I found myself outside their cabin a few minutes later. Accompanied by the chipper sounds of the early morning birds, I knocked on their door.

No one opened, and no sounds came from the inside. I shook my head with a huff. What had I been thinking, rushing up here at this hour? They were on vacation, of course they wouldn’t be awake at sunrise.

But as I decided to return to the boat, the door opened and revealed a sleep-rumpled Sawyer wrapped in a sheet. “Wade?” His voice was gravelly, his hair a mess, his eyes were bleary, and he took my breath away.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t think about the time. I should …” I gestured in the direction of the path that had brought me to their cabin.

“No!” His voice cracked, and he had to clear his throat. “No,” he repeated. “Please don’t go.”

Preston emerged from the bedroom and joined us. He’d pulled on a T-shirt, and it looked like he’d run his fingers through his hair to make it a little more presentable. “Wade?”

“Do you know what I did yesterday?” I blurted out.

They both shook their heads.

“I was hiding. Avoiding you.”

Sawyer’s mouth turned down and he reached out his hand to his husband, who took it immediately.

“Why?” Preston said.

“What did you mean when you asked me out? Did you mean as a prelude to fucking … or as a date-date?”

Sawyer’s answer was immediate. “A date-date.”

I shoved my hands in my pockets. “Have you, uh, done that before?”

“Just casually. Nothing serious,” Preston said.

“Then … what’s different now?”

“We like you.” Preston’s voice was soothing, as though he was trying to calm a wild animal.

And he wasn’t far off. My body was in flight mode, my stomach churned, and I couldn’t get enough air into my lungs. Neptune lumbered over to my side and sat next to me, leaning his massive body against my leg. I buried my fingers in his soft fur, comforted by his presence.

“Did you hide from us because you don’t like us?” Sawyer asked.

“No.”

“Then why?”

I turned my head away, unable to look at them anymore. So many questions were spinning inside my head, but I knew there were no answers to any of them. Not at this moment, at least.

What I wanted was to know I wouldn’t get hurt, because I had a feeling they could be very important to me if I let them. But who can guarantee something like that before they’ve even been out on a single date?

So, I drew in a deep breath of forest air, scratched my dog behind his ears, and turned to look at them. “Yes,” I said. “I’d love to go out on a date with you.”

As Austin relaxed, he smiled more, and his body lost that tight posture. He leaned against me a little as the evening wore on, and when he started to shiver, I put my arm around him. The soft sigh he gave was one of the sweetest sounds I’d ever heard. I wanted to push him down onto the ground and devour him, taste and touch every inch of his delectable skin. But it was much too soon for that, and I definitely didn’t want to do it with an audience.

Eventually, he pulled out his phone, woke it up, and sighed. He turned into me so his entire side was pressed against my chest and tilted his head back, so he could look into my eyes.

“I have to go. I’ve got an early-ish shift tomorrow.”

Acute disappointment flooded my veins. But I nodded.

“Let me walk you to your car,” I murmured.

He nodded and stood. It took a little bit to say goodbye. I appreciated the enthusiasm Everett gushed over him, and I was pleased to see Drew give him a warm handshake. Finally, we moved out of the ring of firelight and ambled toward his car. Neither one of us seemed in a hurry for things to end.

“So, uh.” Austin cleared his throat, and then whispered so softly it was barely audible. “Poop.”

I laughed quietly, and reached out, tilting his face up. “Thanks for coming. I really wanted to see you.”

Austin sucked in a breath and held it, then let it out in a rush of words, “Was this a date?”

It took me a second to understand, because he’d spoken so fast I almost couldn’t make out what he said. But when I did, my grin was so wide my face hurt.

“Well, I certainly thought it was. I definitely wanted it to be. What’s your verdict?”

He gave a shaky laugh. “Me, too.”

“Good.” I cautiously took a step closer, wanting to be in his space, and he let me. He even lifted a hand and placed it on my waist. I cursed the layers between us. I wanted to feel his touch on my skin.

“Do you maybe want to do it again? Uh, go on a date, I mean?”

“No maybe about it. I definitely want to do it again.”

Austin nodded, opened his mouth, and then shut it again. He shook his head, mouthed a word I couldn’t make out in the dimness, and then said, “Can I cook for you?”

“I would love that,” I said fervently.

“Oh. Good.” Austin’s smile bloomed on his face, and for a long minute, I was captivated by his full, kissable mouth. I almost didn’t hear what he said next. “I have Tuesday off. Want to come over?”

“Just tell me what time.”

Austin laughed, and I swore it sounded like music. “I’ll text you as soon as I figure out what to make. You don’t have any allergies, do you?”

“Not to food.”

“Good. Then. Tuesday?”

“Absolutely.”

Austin sucked in another breath, kissed my cheek again with one of those fleeting, butterfly kisses, and then scrambled to get in his car. I couldn’t keep the grin off my face as I waved him on and stood there until his car disappeared around the bend in the drive.

Book sale – 50% off ebooks

eoss v2 fall

My fabulous publisher JMS Books has a sale on all ebooks to mark the end of summer, because when fall comes we need more books. Because books and tea and candles and warm socks are perfect for fall, and go together like…um, I’m not gonna say peanut butter and jelly because I’m not a fan of that combination, but pick something you feel really go together. I’m choosing hamburgers and onions, because I can’t eat burgers without onions! 😀

Anyhooo. That means that my ebooks are 50% off at JMS Books this weekend and through Monday, so if you need to refill your TBR to make sure you have something to read when the days grow colder this is the perfect opportunity.

Why not pre-order my book Of Autumn Leaves and New Beginnings (release day September 21) if you haven’t already done it, because as you can tell, it’s all about the autumn. It’s also about two men in their late forties starting over.

My collab story with Kris T. Bethke, Falling Into Love also takes place in autumn, so if you’re in the mood for the found family trope, this is just for you.

9 Willow Street also takes place in fall (despite the happy green cover) and features a super cute bunny shifter. Us Again is a short, second chances story with lovely fall colors on the cover.

But all my books are on sale, of course, so check out this link to my author page on the JMS website to see what else I’ve written!

I have some recommendations for books written by other authors you can buy, too, if you already own all of mine 😀

  • Wild Fragile Vines by Vivien Dean (that I reviewed here) is on pre-order. It will be re-released by JMS on September 4 (it was previously published by Amber Quill), and I absolutely adored it. I loved it so much I’m actually considering buying it again (even though it’s the same cover and everything) just to support Ms. Dean.
  • Pumpkin Rolls and Porn Sounds by Kris T. Bethke. It was the first story I read by my dear friend Ms. Bethke and I bought it only because of the fun title, but it turned out to be a great little book and it made me a fan of her writing. It’ll be re-released by JMS (it was previously published by Dreamspinner Press) on September 21 and will share book birthday with Of Autumn Leaves and New Beginnings!! Yay!
  • Chicken Soup by Mel Bossa, which I talked about here. It’s a very short story but full on the feels, and it’s only 50 cents now so clickety-click and buy it. You won’t regret it.
  • Cultivating Love by Addison Albright. I’ve raved so much about Prince Marcelo from the Plans series lately, so I need to give some love to Ed and Joe so they don’t feel neglected. It was my introduction to Addison’s writing, and it’s one of my favorite re-reads!
