Sunday Book Recommendation: the Christmas Edition

Last Sunday I was in a severe I want to read a really great Christmas story mood, and I actually managed to stumble over not one, not two, but three new awesome five-star Christmas books. Really. How often does that happen, that you buy three books in a row that are all excellent? Not very often, I’d say.

So I thought that I’d tell you about them, in case you, too, happen to be in that kind of mood. They all have one thing in common: the characters are mature (over 40, or at least close). I find that I gravitate more and more to romances featuring mature characters so this trio of gems was exactly what I needed.

Santa’s Secrets by K.C. Wells has a very different take on the myth of Santa that I really liked. The story was based on this Christmas commercial by the Norwegian Post Office according to the author, and the story is even more heartwarming than the commercial. Both characters are awesome and likable and the ending left me with a warm glow in my heart. Seriously. Read it, you won’t regret it.

“I thought I could do this, but I can’t”
“Do what?”
I gestured to the bed. “This. This once-a-year reunion, where we eat, talk, laugh, make love, make love again — it can’t go on.”
I couldn’t miss the flash of panic. “Why? Why can’t it?”
“Because it’s not enough,” I shouted.

The Dog Days of December by Kim Fielding is a bite-sized Christmas treat, featuring two match-making dogs and two lovable, ordinary guys. I love ordinary guys in my romances so much, so this could’ve been written just for me. It’s the perfect length if you need a few moments to yourself with a steaming cup of tea (or hot chocolate) and your favorite Christmas song playing softly in the background, as you allow yourself to forget your miles-long December to-do list.

Shawn knew a lot of people who felt obligated to fill the air with conversation, but sometimes it was pleasant to simply be quiet together.

A Christmas Harbor by Avery Cockburn is a lovely story about two lonely men finding each other on Christmas Eve and it sucked me right in and didn’t let me go until the very end and I didn’t put it down until after midnight. Which maybe wasn’t the best idea, since my alarm went off at 5:15 am on Monday morning because I was going to the office, but David and Paul was definitely worth losing sleep over. These MCs are also regular guys and they made me smile and laugh and feel so much. It was great. Maybe it was my favorite of the three, but I don’t want to make the other two books sad, so let’s pretend I didn’t write that. 😀

He made a dismissive wave. “Never mind. It’s stupid.”
“I don’t care if it’s stupid. And you don’t know me, so why would you care if I know something stupid about you?”
David opened his mouth, clearly taken aback by Paul’s forwardness but maybe just tipsy enough to not care. “I’ve lost Whamageddon.” He looked at his watch. “With two hours and eleven minutes to go.”
