Nell Iris' Christmas

Holidays at Nell’s: Day 16

Today’s recommendation is for all you sweet-tooths out there. But make sure you have something gingerbread-y to eat when you read it or you’ll regret it!

It’s also a brand spanking new book, it’s released today! *throws confetti, plays a fanfare, and pops a bottle of bubbly*

Day 16 of Holidays at Nell’s: Gingerbread and Good Tidings by Kris T. Bethke

Cody Schaefer loves the Christmas season and a benefit to working from home means that he gets to be surrounded by his decoration collections all the time. And as a bonus, he starts getting deliveries from a local café containing holiday treats flavored with gingerbread. The notes aren’t signed, but they clearly come from someone who knows him.

Out of all of Cody’s friends, Jason van Buren is the only one level-headed about the mysterious treats, and Cody begins talking to him daily. Cody enjoys their chats, and the two men grow closer. One Christmas Eve, no delivery appears. But Jason shows up on his doorstep, ready to back gingerbread cookies. It’s then Cody realizes just who is behind the deliveries. And perhaps, Cody will get Jason as his Christmas gift this year.

Rich and fudgy and swirled with goodness.

Quote from Gingerbread and Good Tidings

I found myself groaning when I read this book, both times! (I beta read it and I’ve also read an ARC). Not a sexual groan, but a gimme that dessert NOW groan. I want gingerbread cheesecake and gingerbread brownies and gingerbread rolls with icing. Gawd, I’m salivating just writing this.

I broke off a chunk, toasted the screen with it, then popped it in my mouth. I made an incredibly inappropriate sound as I chewed, it was that good.

Quote from Gingerbread and Good Tidings

Don’t do what I did: don’t read this book twice without anything gingerbread-y to eat. I could be excused for the first time I did it because I didn’t know what I was in for, but the second time was just amateurish. Shame on me.

“Do you need an emotional-support gingerbread?” I asked, holding out one of the stuffies and wiggling it at him.

Quote from Gingerbread and Good Tidings.

Yes. Yes, I need an emotional-support gingerbread. Thanks for asking.

But Nell, I can almost hear you complain, what about the rest of the book? Stop focusing only on the gingerbread, what about the romance? Well, of course there was a romance. This is a Kris T. Bethke book after all, and she always writes the most delicious romance. This is no exception. I love the friends-to-lovers trope, even though this is technically acquaintances-to-lovers, I guess. I absolutely adore that Cody LOVES! Christmas and goes all out decorating his home, I love the idea of the secret deliveries with goodness from the local café (why isn’t anyone sending me gingerbread brownies, whyyyyyyy? 😭), and I loved Jason.

I loved everything about this book. Read it, but heed my warning. Do not read without gingerbread!
