Cody Schaefer loves the Christmas season and a benefit to working from home means that he gets to be surrounded by his decoration collections all the time. I found myself groaning when I read this book, both times! (I beta read it and I’ve also read an ARC). Not a sexual groan, but a gimme that dessert NOW groan. I want gingerbread cheesecake and gingerbread brownies and gingerbread rolls with icing. Gawd, I’m salivating just writing this.
I broke off a chunk, toasted the screen with it, then popped it in my mouth. I made an incredibly inappropriate sound as I chewed, it was that good.

Don’t do what I did: don’t read this book twice without anything gingerbread-y to eat. I could be excused for the first time I did it because I didn’t know what I was in for, but the second time was just amateurish. Shame on me.

But Nell, I can almost hear you complain, what about the rest of the book? Stop focusing only on the gingerbread, what about the romance? Well, of course there was a romance. This is a Kris T. Bethke book after all, and she always writes the most delicious romance. This is no exception. I love the friends-to-lovers trope, even though this is technically acquaintances-to-lovers, I guess. I absolutely adore that Cody LOVES! Christmas and goes all out decorating his home, I love the idea of the secret deliveries with goodness from the local café (why isn’t anyone sending me gingerbread brownies, whyyyyyyy? 😭), and I loved Jason.
I loved everything about this book. Read it, but heed my warning. Do not read without gingerbread!
