Nell Iris' Christmas

Advent calendar: day 8

Behind door number 8 of my advent calendar is another of my own books, Under the Felt Mistletoe. Today is release day, so I thought it was perfect to feature my lovely boys Finn and Nelson in the calendar.

The idea for this story came when I read somewhere on Twitter about a guy who had been thrown out of his home when his parents found out that he was gay, but every year for Christmas he left them presents on the porch (๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ). That story from real life broke my heart, and I needed to write a HEA for him. Even if it’s only fictional.

I hope you’ll like it ๐Ÿ™‚

The most wonderful time of the year is about to get even better.ย

On a cold, rainy December morning, Finnโ€™s beloved Grampa, his best friend and rock, makes a friend outside their home who he invites in for coffee. The last thing Finn expects is Nelson, a man with a painful past, who is beautiful and generous and turns Finnโ€™s knees into jelly.

What starts out as a chance to get out of the rain, soon becomes more as Nelson helps Finn get ready for the Christmas market. They bond over coffee and fabric and Mariah Carey. Can handmade Christmas ornaments and an understanding heart give Nelson the love heโ€™s been denied?

I haven’t forgotten that promised you a giveaway every time I feature one of my own books in this advent calendar.

To enter the giveaway: tell me which celebrity you would like to kiss under the mistletoe in the comments. Don’t forget to write your email address or some other way for me to contact you if you win.

The winner will get a copy of Unexpected Christmas and Red Popcorn Strings and Gumball Rings, two of my three Christmas stories from last year,ย in ebook. (The reason I’m not giving away the third story is that it’s already free, so it would be incredibly cheap of me! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Today’s quote from the book:

With a mischievous glint in his eye, he picks up the stool and walks away. โ€œYouโ€™d better try it, though. Make sure it works before you sell it.โ€

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ I ask his retreating back.

โ€œI mean you should kiss Nelson under that thing, what did you think I mean?โ€ His cackle echoes through the house as blood rushes to my face so quickly I swear I can hear it whooshing in my ears.

Iโ€™m mortified. My face is burning, my ears are burning, my neck is burning. Itโ€™s not that I donโ€™t want to kiss Nelson. I just donโ€™t want my sixty-seven-year-old Grampa being the one to suggest it.

Today’s song to go with the story

All I Want For Christmas is Youย by Steve Grand, because Finn and Nelson sing it to their hearts content as they make Christmas ornaments for the market, but since I’m not a huge fan of Mariah Carey, I changed it up a little and chose this version instead ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Happy Release Day!!๐Ÿ’ž

Love that version of the song, but you surprised me. I expected I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus. ๐Ÿ˜ And I love the quote you chose. Perfect to include such a fun and important side character in it.

Iโ€™ve already got all your books, so I donโ€™t need to be in the contest, but Iโ€™ll play anyway. I pick Colin Firth, but he has to be dressed in full Mr. Darcy gear at the time! ๐Ÿฅฐ

    1. Mmmm, yes. White damp shirt? ๐Ÿ˜‰ On the other hand, he’s mighty fine in full gear with the tall hat (whatever the real word for that is?), too!! ๐Ÿ˜

And just to be kind to you (since I sort of stole Mr. Darcy from you in my Amy Aislin group takeover), I can pick someone else. So I pick Jason Momoa as Aquaman. *Wipes drool of keyboard* ๐Ÿ˜€
