About Nell, Writing Challenge

Day 18 #30DayWritingChallenge

Post 30 facts about yourself

I love languages. Except for Swedish and English that was mandatory in school, I also studied French, German, and Latin. Bonjour, je m’appelle Nell Iris. Ich wohne in Kuala Lumpur. Veni, vidi, vici 🙂

I’ve memorized an entire poem in Latin. Granted, it’s only 2 lines, but still…
Odi et amo. Quare id faciam fortasse requiris.
Nescio, sed fieri sentio, et excrucior
Written by Gaius Valerius Catullus. Wanna know what it means? 😀

My favorite word is JUXTAPOSITION. I love both the sound of it and the meaning.

I’m in love with Saturn. As in the planet. It’s so beautiful, and… I liked it so I put a ring on it. Sorry, couldn’t help myself 🙂

I think that raisins are a tragic tale of grapes that could have been wine. Preferably with bubbles.

I can’t live without music and I love singing. I will never be the next Celine Dion, but people usually don’t throw rocks at me when I open my mouth at least.

I believe that humor and intelligence are more important than looks and a gym-toned body.

My favorite animals are elephants and tigers and I wish stupid people would stop killing them for trophies.

I’m a big believer in true love, soul mates and love at first sight.

…because I fell in love with my husband the first time I saw his big brown, beautiful eyes.

I’m a crier. I cry when I listen to music, when I read books, when watching sad (or happy!) movies or TV-shows. I cry when kids are being cute and when someone is hurting elephants and sometimes because I’m so angry I’m gonna explode.

I probably haven’t worn make-up for at least 10 years.

My favorite hangout when I was a kid was the library. Once when I was home sick from school I didn’t visit for 2 weeks. When I finally came back, the ladies working there greeted me with hugs and “We thought you’d moved!” 🙂

I count the steps every time I go up or down the stairs. I can’t help it.

I worked in debt-collection back in Sweden. It was a soul-destroying job and the most creative thing I did was write debt-collection letters.

I’m obsessed with pretty stationary.

I can’t draw…even if my life depended on it.

I have eczema. I’ve had it all my life and I predict the itch will drive me mad sooner or later.

I love chocolate, but I can’t really eat it because it makes my eczema worse.

I have piercings. I have stretched ear piercings in both ears, and a labret (lower lip).

…but no tattoos. The only reason is my dry, itchy skin, otherwise I’d have several.

I don’t like tomatoes. I don’t like the seeds: they’re slimy and remind me of tadpoles, and who wants to eat tadpoles?

I love Sudoku, the bigger the better. Right now I’m obsessed with super samurai Sudokus, i.e 13 interlinked grids. It’s crazy. And fun!

I love the smell of fresh ginger.

I hate vacuum cleaning.

I read 1100 books in 2014. #NotKidding

I’m allergic so I can’t have pets.

…if you don’t count the gecko that lives in my kitchen and eats bugs and poops all over my counter. But at least he pooped on the kitchen towels last time, so I’d like to think I’ve potty trained him. Oh, and he has a name. Örjan 🙂

I love to visit new places but I hate the actual traveling. Planes, trains, buses…yuck!

I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 37

Well, that was 30 facts about me. I won’t ask you to tell me 30 things about yourself, but maybe at least one? 🙂

  1. LOL. I see so many of the prompt words you’ve dropped on me in this list. 🙂

“I believe that humor and intelligence are more important than looks and a gym-toned body.” — YES! So many romances have picture-perfect MCs, and I wish more were just basic everyday people, or people who are unique in fun ways. I’ve tried to emphasize that in a some (but not all 😔…sorry) of my stories, and I love to read ones that have MCs that are average, and maybe a little insecure.

I’m a crier, too. Doesn’t matter if the emotion is happy or sad, if it’s extreme, I’m tearing up. I’m on my way to joining you on the makeup ban. It’s not as total as yours, but I put it on very rarely these days. How tragic not to be able to eat chocolate (and how pathetic that is the aspect of dealing with eczema that I zeroed in on)! My piercings are limited to ones for basic earrings, and I have no tattoos.

Your gecko sounds like a hoot, and WOW, that’s a LOT of books! 😀
